Forest Health Project

Douglas-fir thinning

On approximately 200 timbered acres south of Bozeman, Ranch Resources designed and implemented a plan that enhances the structure in Douglas-fir forests.  Large trees are retained in the stand, while thinning out the smaller trees, mimicking a forest structure that was more common in the area.  In addition to Douglas-fir stand enhancements, aspen stands in the area are also enhanced by removing conifers from within the stand, and from around the stand.  This practice increases light and aspen health.
